Vital Records
The Vital Records division is charged with the registration, maintenance and issuance of birth and death records for DeKalb County. This office provides certified copies of birth and death records for events occurring in DeKalb County and is available from 1882 to present.
A certified birth/death certificate is the legal registration of a birth/death. Persons born in Indiana now have the option to purchase a birth certificate or a death certificate from DeKalb County, their birth/death county, or Indiana State Department of Health. Each county may choose to issue another counties record per IC 16-37-1-8. Unless there is an error or discrepancy, then it will need to be purchased from the county where the event occurred. Costs for obtaining birth/death certificates and application procedures may vary from one Health Department to another. We are unable to make changes to any records outside of DeKalb County.
For a birth or death between 1882 – 1920, we may not be able to supply complete information
